RIP: Evel Knievel
Robert Craig Knievel aka Evel Knievel died today. He was 69 years old. Many of you younger readers may not remember Evel, but my guess is you know something about this outrageous daredevil whose biggest claims to fame came from unsuccessful jumps.
In 1965, Knievel led a group that he named Evel Knievel's Motorcycle Daredevils. They would travel from town to town performing typical motorcycle stunts of the era: riding wheelies, driving through fire walls and jumping things. Knievel had a knack for self-promotion and a talent for jumping his motorcycle over things. In 1966 he began touring alone and his jumps continued to become bigger.
On New Year's Day in 1968 he failed in his attempt to jump the fountains at Caesar's Palace. Although the jump nearly killed him, it also launched him in to popular culture history. In the years to follow there would be more jumps, astronomical paychecks, tv and movie appearances, Evel Knievel toys and collector cards and an ever growing legend. Most kids my age went through a period when they considered Evel Knievel to be "the man." He was outrageous, traveled where he wanted, had tons of money and beautiful women and risked his life doing what he wanted.
In 1974, Knievel was paid $6 million dollars by ABC for the rights to televise his attempt to jump the Snake River canyon in a rocket-motorcycle. I remember watching the show live and my total disappointment when the chute malfunctioned almost immediately. Although Knievel continued to make big jumps and big money, I had lost interest. Knievel retired from big jumps in 1976, but continued touring into the 1980's. He had been in failing health in recent years.
In 2006, Evel was quoted as saying, "No king or prince has lived a better life." Evel lived his life doing things his way and for several years he was as popular as any rock star. It's hard to imagine that a guy who jumped his motorcycle over things could have had such an impact on popular culture, but Evel Knievel did.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans.

a story shared to me and I pass it on to you...
Indian Youth's Rite of Passage
A story to pass on.
Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of passage?
His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a MAN. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own .
The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!
Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his bli ndfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.
We, too, are never alone. Even when we don't know it, our Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us. When trouble comes all we have to do is reach out to Him. If you liked this story, pass it on. If not, you took off your blindfold before dawn

Cadre Corner Membership
There is no deadline on response time on this... the Cadre Corner Studios is recruiting talented individuals to be part of their community/online studio.
If you have what it takes and are willing to be part of a team effort or just feel you would like to contribute your abilities in the collective... be sure to let us know.
Contact Jesse "Cadre" Hansen at cadre@cadrecorner.com.
Subject Line: Potential membership
If you have samples, send along in email and let us know what you like to specialize in be it pencilling, inking or whatever... we are working on numerous projects and perhaps you have a project of your own you would like to publish... let's hear it.
With the release of our debut title: Cornerstone, we hope to get an added response as well as more exposure. The release proves that we now have an avenue to expose and promote your talent other than freelance and website exposure...
Couple of questions for ya if you don't mind.
Are you part of a studio or bound to any type of group?
Have you ever thought of being part of a "collective"?
Cutting to the chase, I'd appreciate ya take a few moments to look over our stuff http://www.cadrecorner.com and see what ya think. If it's something you may be interested (or not for that matter) I would be greatly appreciated if ya give me a holler back.
Here's what we're all about...
Pretty simple really... since I approach the studio as more of a "family". We're all assembled simply to help one another grow, become better artists when able as well as get our own projects out. Helping one another if and when we can.
(see Mission Statement at the top of our website)
There are no strings attached or anything... no contract which "binds" you to working solely for the studio or anything... in fact, our goal is to help one another make it in the big time or if already in the big league, to help promote and add exposure for ya.
Look over the new site, forums and gallery section... see if we're something you'd like to be a part of our community/studio.
I don't ask anything of anyone unprepared for what lies in store.
We provide for all members:
1. A personal thread on the forums to have their "voice" to the public and keep everyone informed of their updates.
2. A site to post news, updates and or news releases on current projects.
3. A gallery to showcase their talents which is totally maintained by said creators... you control what's in your portfolio.
4. A chance to improve and work with other professionals all with the same desire... to get better as creators and as people. To grow.
5. When opportunities are presented to us, we automatically make all members aware and allow them first crack before looking outside the studio for the potential clients.
6. We are now officially a publisher with the release of Cornerstone and hope to expand that title base to at least four titles within the next year... so there are avenues to expand and get your creations out there in house as well.
7. Representation at shows when applicable or able.
We ask in return:
1. Professional mentality and representation to the masses...
2. Participation... whether it's on the forums interacting with others, responding to emails in regards to management requests or even perhaps at conventions and/or shows.
3. Assist one another... if you're in need, we try to step up and help and ask the same in return...
That's about all we ask... pretty cut and dry really... I look at all members as parts of my own "family" and treat everyone as such.
As we are all either already in the industry being productive or for those that are awaiting their chance to explore those avenues, our best attribute is that we care for one another's goals and achieving said goals.
We supply an online gallery, a dedicated thread on the forums and a place to tell people what you're working on which can be reached all in one spot. If there are projects in the works that can be promoted... we help do so any way we can.
YOU would control what is in your gallery most importantly...
Payment would be on a case by case basis... if someone has a project that needs something and has the funds to pay for said services, then the two parties work that stuff out privately. That being said, I do a lot of inking for fellow members for free to help the cause... but again, that's on a case by case basis. Not everything mind you. ;) Gotta pay the bills too. lol.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jesse "Cadre" Hansen

Collectors Comics Convention October 13, 2007 Write up.
Let me tell ya first of all... I didn't even know I was slotted to be at this show... I knew that Keith Mallow (the show host) tried to reach me, however I got that message quite late and figured that since I hadn't gotten back to him, that I would probably have been cut from the attending roster anyway... then my bud and fellow Cadre Corner Studios founder, Chris "cannonball" Lesley calls me from the Orlando Con asking me why I didn't tell him about the show I was to attend in October. Surprisingly enough, I responded with... "I'm not doing anymore shows this year as my schedule shows... haven't signed up for any thus far." He told me, "Well, I'm looking at this flyer that has your name right on top above legendary artist Herb Trimpe and right next to John's (John Beatty: inker extraordinaire)." I said, "WHAT?" Well, to my surprise, Keith had made these cool flyers (see below) and sure enough, there my name was. How could I NOT attend now I ask you? lol.
I then asked Chris if he was willing to go with me as I hate long drives as they tend to make me tired... long story... lol. Luckily, he said sure and we were on our way. The show was held the same place it was the first time I went which was a nice place and such... unlike the second show where Keith was mislead to believe things that weren't true. Shame on them. That second show was a wash as a result... felt bad for Keith on that one. He's a great guy from my experiences with him and deserves a show to represent his kindness and showmanship.
Well, we arrived at the Community Center that the show was held at and was greeted by a nice sign made by Vital Signs outside being hung up. I was like... coolness man... doing it right!
Walked in, greeted Keith who was surprised I showed due to my slackness of getting back to him... needless to say, I received much deserved grief over that. What can ya do?... lol. Found out where we were to sit and started bringing stuff in. Unlike the first show, Keith was able to arrange a room that had a large stage area (wow right?) and all of us "artists" were situated up on stage like a main attraction... too cool. Perhaps it was more like a freakshow... oh well, I'll take whatever I can get... lol. So, anyway, Chris and I got set up, with SIGN and all! Also in attendance was the greats Herb Trimpe, Alex Saviuk, John Beatty, Big City Comics, as well as others...
We got to meet some young talent while there... seeing portfolios which is always cool and a highlight for me at shows. I love seeing what people are producing and to lend a hand if/when I can from my limited knowledge and experiences. A major plus to say the least. Never know, perhaps some of them will become "family" members here in the Corner... that is always nice as well. Never have too much family I say. :D
Well the photos below were taken after the show at a Golden Corral where Keith hosted a little get together as GC was one of the co-sponsors of the show... can't go wrong with all you can eat buffets'... lol.
From back left to front right: Herb Trimpe, Keith Mallow, John Beatty, Chris "cannonball" Lesley, front: (sitting) Steve from Vital Signs and lastly me, Jesse "Cadre" Hansen. Glad my visage didn't break the camera... lol.
Oh, one more thing real quick before I forget... I'm NOT THAT SHORT! I always tend to get in the front and as I don't want to block anyone out, I always squat or something to allow plenty of face room for others... just in case anyone wondered... lol.

Christian and labels...
(quoted as received via email... couldn't have said it better myself... so here ya go)
What's on the label isn't as important as what's on the inside.
A teacher was teaching Sunday school one morning and asked the children if any of them could think of any names that the early Christians were called before they were Christians. The teacher was looking for answers like, followers, believers, apostles, or disciples. One of the young children raised his hand and said, "I know......Lutherans!".
Now, you can substitute Lutherans in that joke for Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, or any other denomination. That young boy spoke volumes in that 3-word statement! Are we Lutherans, or are we Christian? Are we Baptist, or are we Christian? Are we Catholic, or are we Christian? The different denominations were created because someone didn't agree with someone else about something, so they went off and started their own church. Denominational labels I think puts the focus on pointing out our differences rather than pointing out what we have in common. Whether we are Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, or Assembly of God, we are all Christian. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He is our Lord and Savior! That is what we ought to be focusing on! Some in the non-denominational churches might say, "that's why we call ourselves non-denominational", but I say that is even shifting the focus because that's saying "we're different from the denominational churches".
When we start to focus on how we worship instead of who and why we worship, we lose the impact of worship. God doesn't want to be put in a box. I think the Bible demonstrates that in many different ways. One example is the different ways that Jesus healed people. Look at the times that he healed blind people. One time he spit on a man's eyes and put His hands on him and asked if he could see, after the man said he basically saw shapes, Jesus put His hands on his eyes again and the man could see (Mark 8:22-26). Another time Jesus took some dirt and spit in it and made mud and put that on the man's eyes, He then told the man to go and wash his eyes 7 times in the pool of Siloam and he would receive his sight (John 9:1-7). And when Paul was healed from his blindness, Jesus used Ananias to heal Paul by just laying his hands on him (Acts 9:10-18). In the first one, Jesus spit on the man's eyes and laid His hands on him twice. In the second one, Jesus made mud and had the man wash his eyes 7 times. And in the third one, Jesus used someone else to just lay hands on them. Same result, three different ways. Jesus could have just spoken each time and they would have been healed. He could have just laid his hands on them and they would have been healed. But I think that He did it different each time because He didn't want us to think that there is some "formula" for doing things. He was trying to say that the way we do things isn't as important as why we are doing it. He healed these people to show God's glory and so that would be the focus, not putting the emphasis on how He did it.
Instead of saying, "I don't agree with the Baptists because......, The Lutherans are wrong because they..........", let's say "We are all Christians and let's work together to further the kingdom of God by focusing on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and do what He has called us to do".
And instead of focusing on the style of worship.... whether we take communion at the rail, walk up to take it, or sit in our pews as it's passed around, whether we sing hymns or contemporary music, whether we have to be in suits or robes, or whether we have to worship on Sundays, let's focus on why we worship and know that God is more interested in what's on the inside of us than what we are showing on the outside. And let what we do, however we do it, be done to bring glory and honor to God.
In Christ,
Rik (Walgrave)

Who Will See God?
Who Will See God?
Today's Scripture
“Who will go up to the holy mountain? Who will see God? Those with clean hands and a pure heart…” (Psalm 24:3-4).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
Thank God for the blood of Jesus that gives us clean hands and purifies us from all unrighteousness! But notice, in order to see God, we have to have a pure heart. We have to choose to submit our hearts to God and allow Him to purify us on the inside. We have to constantly guard our heart and not allow junk to come in and contaminate us. How do you guard your heart? Be selective about what you see and what you watch on TV. If you don’t want to become like the people you see on TV, you shouldn’t watch them! If you don’t want to end up like the people singing those songs on the radio, you shouldn’t listen to them. If you don’t want to end up like the people in the magazines, you shouldn’t read them. What you give your attention to will shape your heart and character. Give your attention to the Word of God. Give your attention to worship. Open your heart to the Father and ask Him to purify you by His Holy Spirit. As you do, you will ascend higher and higher and just as the verse promises, you will see God!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I want to see You. Open the eyes of my heart. Purify me and cleanse my heart. Help me make the right choices so that I can honor you today and always. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

SPACE DOUBLES by Th3rd World
Go HERE for previews of the first issue.
Why would I mention this at all on my site... ? What would I care?
Well, because it's really cool AND it's also the avenue in which I was given the opportunity to associate my name with that of a comic book legend... MIKE BARON. click on the name to go to his site and see what I mean for those few that may not know his name...
I was ecstatic to get the opportunity when Scott Closter and Mike DeVito of Th3rd World brought it to me via Thomas Mauer. I was delighted to say the least. Here's some previews of my own of the inks that I did for the issue I worked on "REHAB"
Cover to the issue I worked on shown below. (Image shown here not final version... but close)

Update... Site done and links added
Howdy there everyone... or anyone... lol... just so ya'll know... I've added a few sections to the links area for quick and easy access... a photo section as well as a link to my own inking portfolio section... both of which can be found by going through the Cadre Corner site as well by the way. ;) wink wink...
Take a few moments and check it all out, leave comments to the pics and let me know what ya'll think.
ALSO: I've FINALLY finished the http://www.jessehansen.com website... hope ya'll dig it.
I've been facing some life altering revelations as of late and as such, there may be some major changes upcoming... I've discussed it a bit with some close friends of mine... and with input as well as my own personal and professional thoughts, I hope to come to a decision on a number of things.
More on that later when the time comes... for now, gotta get my plate cleared so I can evaluate and re-evaluate things a bit clearer and with a clean conscience.
For now, take care and be blessed!

Jaguars Preseason--Game One...
Opponent: Miami
Location: Miami
Our First and Second Stringers looked excellent... our strength was our weakness at first until they settled in and adjusted some (that being our offensive line)... our defense was stifling and spent more time in the backfield of the opponent than anywhere else... so good things there... I see a lot of potential.
Just hope they don't screw it up or injuries kill us like last year... only the Lord knows what the future holds. :D

I'd love to hear your thoughts, comments and/or critiques. For that matter, I'd love to just get a regular "howdy" from time to time. :D
Well, here's some sketches I'm working on in my "spare" time... lol... that's funny.
Anyway, here ya go. Lemme know if ya like thus far.

This is a character concept sketch I did for an upcoming book written by Robert Irving.
The book is slated to be submitted to a few bigger companies once the creative team is assembled and the submission package is done. If not picked up, we will publish it through the Cadre Corner Studios.
What ya think?

I'm Batman!
a pencilled piece I did of Batman... hope ya like... I've also inked this and made available at shows...

What can an inker do?
This piece, in my opinion, shows what an inker can do with a piece when given some leeway. Randy "Rantz" Kintz was nice enough to allow me to ink this up for him. As you can see, it was nicely rendered with the detail stuff left to my imagination.
Hope ya'll like the results of the collaboration.
